    Steve Dumpleton

Negotiation Advisor and Founder of NorthStar Negotiation
Stephen Dumpleton is a leading authority on negotiation, influence, and performance under pressure. As founder of NorthStar Negotiation, he has worked with organisations such as Deloitte, Kellanova, Visa, and Nestlé to help leaders and commercial teams close high-stakes deals, strengthen partnerships, and unlock new value.

Drawing on more than 10,000 client advisory hours across industries and continents, Stephen blends psychology, strategy, and real-world practice to make negotiation practical, human, and results-driven. His philosophy is that mindset often determines outcome. Negotiators always have a choice: to approach the table with an abundance mindset, seeking to create value, or with a scarcity mindset that focuses only on claiming it. He believes it is this choice, more than tactics, that shapes the results and relationships that follow.

Trust Your Gut: The Negotiator’s Hidden Signal

Most negotiators over-rely on tactics and underuse the one advantage that separates the great from the good: their gut. Your intuitive read—on people, timing, and leverage—is a hidden signal that can unlock value faster than any checklist. In this session, negotiation advisor Stephen Dumpleton shows how to surface, sharpen, and trust that signal at the table—and the simple checkpoints that keep instinct from slipping into bias. The result: faster clarity, stronger relationships, and more value captured when it matters most.

  • Find the signal: Techniques to surface reliable gut cues under pressure
  • Train the signal: Fast drills and feedback loops that make intuition more accurate
  • Guardrails, not brakes: Two quick “gut checks” to avoid bias without killing momentum
