Rosabeth Moss Kanter introduced an interesting idea at ExpoManagement Madrid 2012: sometimes it is better to lose than to win. She argued that failure allows us to grow and winning isn’t always the best thing that can happen to a company. Want to learn more? Here we present the highlights of her presentation.
-Don’t focus on “winning big”, but appreciate the small goals you achieve and proactivity will improve. Small goals are what keep the talent in your company, and bring even larger successes.
-In order to be successful you need discipline, motivation, strength and that each person does their job.
-Talent is a necessity, but it needs authentic leadership in order to grow.
-A great culture and leader are stronger than mere talent. There are teams full of talent, but they won’t succeed in their goals because stars aren’t interested in winning with a team, they just want to shine on their own. WE culture is better than ME culture.
-A good team has a good leader. Such a leader won’t blame others for failing, and will always take responsibility. The big ideas should come from the whole team, not just one person. A great leader won’t allow their team to be passive, and will push them to share new ideas without fearing failure.
-When you make a mistake you learn that you weren’t on the right track. However, your reaction to this failure can lead to a bright and successful future. Don’t just let things go, be proactive!
